Recently the Heroes 9U team played a tournament in Oklahoma and while on the road trip had the oppurtunity to drop in and visit the Univerity of Oklahoma and meet some of the Sooner baseball players.

 

 

The Heroes 11U Smith bring home the hardware after a hard fought weekend in the 11U AA WhataBurger-Heroes Downtown Shootout tournament 3/31/12. After splitting pool play games, the boys battled back from the 6th seed going 3-0 in bracket play for the championship. The Big Sticks came through for the weekend with the team hitting 5 HRs and batting over .350. Notables for the weekend include Shazeb Dayani (6 H, 5 RBI, 1 HR), Niko Hernandez (4 H, 2 RBI,1 HR), Victor Narvaez (6 H, 4 RBI, 1 HR), JV Verdin (5 H, 4 RBI, 2 HR) and JC Erickson (3 H, 6 RBI). The pitchers this weekend performed admirably including Shazeb Dayani (2W), Jack Lynch, Jack Morsbach, JV Verdin (1W), Andrew Salas (1W, 1S) and Victor Narvaez (1S).  Defense was solid this weekend keeping us close in games, including plays by Brody Hilberth and Anton Cariffe.  A job well done for the boys in Blue!

With this tournament win the Heroes move up to 3rd in the USSSA North Texas Power Rankings!

Troy Haugen of Heroes Baseball  and Mustangs Coach Sam Carpenter have collaborated to host a series of camps for youth baseball at Episcopal School of Dallas (ESD) 4100 Merrell Rd, Dallas TX. 75229. These camps will run 4 days a week (Mon-Thurs) 9am to 12pm. The camps will be for players 8 to 15yrs old. The first session will begin Monday June 4th for 13 thru 15 year olds. Session two will begin June 11th for 11 and 12 year olds. Session three starts June 18th for 8 years thru 10 years old.

The staff will consist of Coach Sam Carpenter, Coach Troy Haugen, coaches from the Heroes/Mustangs organizations, as well as former major league players. The camp will be limited to 40 players per weekly session. The total cost of each session is $250 per player, which a portion of the registration fee sponsors an athlete from a disadvantaged or a less fortunate family to attend the camp.

This camp will partner athletes from diverse backgrounds, creating a cross-cultural exchange of various socio-economic environments. The camp emphasizes teaching proper baseball skills and fundamentals, and includes team and individual competitions. The value of this camp is the combination of quality instruction and the diversity of backgrounds present.  10U Major Heroes-Sumbler step it up for the weekend and play in the 12 AA division and take home the Championship of the Luck of the Irish tournament in Grapevine,Tx. The Heroes played  four games on Sunday knocking off the #9,#1,#13, and #7 seed along the way. The weekend was led by dominating pitching outings by Campbell Sullivan (.90 ERA 6.2 IP 8 K’s) Josh Stephan (1.50 ERA 6.0 IP 6 K’s) and Josh McCall ( 0.00 ERA 7.0 IP 8 K’s), led defensively behind the plate by Garrett Williams with 4 runners caught stealing. The team also generated 38 runs offensively over the weekend led by Cade Sumbler’s  .727 avg. and 17 stolen bases .

Our Heroes 9u major team was recently recognized by travelballselect.com coaches poll as one of the top teams in the nation.  This team is ranked #21st in a recent coaches poll of the top 25 nationally!  This is the first time any Heroes teams have been recognized by select baseball as a national powerhouse. Congratulations to all the boys and coaches for a job well done!
